Estimado médico y personal del consultorio: By now, you’ve probably seen and heard the national
news announcing Humana as the nation’s easiest health plan
with which to do business. The recognition of Humana as number one
in the industry by athenahealth, the nation’s second largest
claims clearinghouse, and Physicians Practice®, America’s
Leading Practice Management Journal, is validation that our commitment
to excellence in paying providers timely and accurately is paying
off.
The athenahealth/Physicians Practice story highlights your
concern with claims being paid timely and accurately — the
first time. As we have discussed in recent issues of the magazine,
reducing administrative complexity in the health care system plays
a large role in the accuracy and timeliness of the payment process,
and that is where our efforts have been squarely focused.
We have significantly enhanced our provider Web-connectivity services
and continue to build on this foundation to further streamline our
payment process efficiencies. For example, providers now have the
opportunity to submit claims to Humana via our real-time claims
adjudication (RTCA) process. We continue to work with national provider
organizations like the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA),
to realize not only Humana’s goals, but industry goals of
administrative simplification and finding multipayer solutions.
To achieve unit cost superiority, Humana must demonstrate value,
defined simply as the ease in which our providers can do business
with us. Our growing reputation as the payer of choice — the
health plan offering best in class service — enhances our
image with you, our providers, hopefully resulting in lower unit
costs and improved experiences for our members when they seek medical
care.
